Eleanor C. Shepley
CHARLES CITY, Iowa - Eleanor C. Shepley, 83, of Charles City, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at her home.
A funeral Mass for Eleanor Shepley will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Brian Shepley, Reverend Carl Ries and Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek will concelebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday at the church an hour prior to the Mass.
Eleanor Cecilia Ewen Shepley was born April 1, 1924, at Charles City, the daughter of Andrew and Cecilia (Stoeffler) Ewen. She graduated the Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in 1941. On January 12, 1949, she was united in marriage to John Shepley at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Eleanor was employed at Salsbury before and in the early years of her marriage. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Theresa Circle, Parish Council, Ministry of Praise, and the Rosary Society. Eleanor also volunteered at the Immaculate Conception Grade School and as a precinct election official. Her interests included quilting, cooking, and traveling. She will always be remembered as a devoted mother and avid grandmother.
Living family members include her husband, John Shepley of Charles City; three children, Barbara (Leslie) Graham of Eyota, Minn., Reverend Brian Shepley of Victor and Thomas (Jennifer) Shepley of Chester, Va.; five grandchildren, Erin (Lane) Johnson, Emily (Russell) Gehling, Andrew Graham, AnnaMarie Koehler-Shepley and Audrey Eleanor Shepley; three great grandchildren, Peyton Johnson, Spencer Gehling and Tyler Gehling; one sister, Irene Ferch of Charles City; one brother, Robert (Val) Ewen of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Melanie Graham; one sister, Katherine Ewen; and three brothers, Ray Ewen, Lawrence Ewen and Kenneth Ewen.
