Oliver Brewer
CHARLES CITY, Iowa - Reverend Oliver Brewer, 94, of Charles City, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
Funeral services for Rev. Oliver Brewer will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. Pastor LaVonne Kaasa will officiate. Burial will be in Freemont Cemetery, Tripoli.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Oliver Louis Brewer was born June 13, 1913, at Tripoli, the son of George and Bertha (Redemann) Brewer. He graduated from the Tripoli High School and attended the State Teachers College (UNI) for two years. On December 29, 1936, he was united in marriage to Marie Jahnke at his parent‚s home in Tripoli. Marie died in 1981. Oliver later married Helen Tack on September 17, 1983, at Riceville. Reverend Oliver retired from the Rolling Acres Free Methodist Church, Mason City in 1992. He was a member of the First Security Bank and Trust Connection Club, the Heritage Club and the Farm Bureau. Oliver attended the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd where he taught adult Sunday school for many years. His interests included woodworking, gardening, reading, electronics, his computer, traveling with Helen and spending time with his family and friends. Oliver will be remembered as a jack of all trades, there wasn‚t anything he couldn‚t do.
Living family members include his wife, Helen Brewer of Charles City; three daughters, Edith (William) Peters of Marengo, Marilyn (James) Rapien of Nora Springs and Margaret (Calvin) Hamann of Grant Park, Ill.; seven grandchildren, CJ (Tara) Rapien, Brett (Trisha) Rapien, Kyle Peters, Thea Peters, Katrina (Brian) Stone, Bethany Hamann (Fred Ecenrode) and Meredth (Mike) Boudreau; eight great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Brewer of Tripoli; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marie; daughter Carol Brewer; one granddaughter, Andrea Hamann; two sisters, Rosemary Goodman and Roberta Brewer; and brother, Hadley Brewer.
