NEW HAMPTON, Iowa - Josephine Phillips, age 86 of New Hampton died Friday, June 22, 2007, at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Center, New Hampton with Msgr. Carl Schmitt celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by her husband, Roger and children, Randy Phillips and Nancy Post. Lector for the Mass will be Steven Phillips. Ann Bennett will be the organist and Travis Bouska will be the vocalist. The offertory gifts will be presented by Julia Schilling, Wendi Cronk, Amy Hansen and Hannah Post.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilbertville at 2:30 p.m. her grandsons, Zachary Phillips, Jason Phillips, Cory Phillips, Carver Allen, Seth Phillips, Kyle Fencl, Jerad Moody, Ryan Roths and Eddie Phillips will be pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are her brother, A.J. Lorang, her two sisters, Esther Loonan and Mary Lacore, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton 641-394-4334 where there will be a 4:00 p.m. Rosary, a 7:00 p.m. Parish Scripture Service and a 7:30 p.m. Video Memorial Tribute. Josephine was born December 20, 1920, in Lismore, MN, the daughter of John and Margareth (Gengler) Lorang. On September 1, 1942, in San Mieguel, California she married Roger Phillips. To this union fifteen children were born. Raising all of their children allowed Josephine not only to be a mother, but also a doctor, homemaker and consultant. The couple moved to New Hampton in 1971 after living in Gilbertville since 1945. She enjoyed providing transportation for others, delivering meals on wheels and baking birthday cakes for elderly neighbors. In her free time, she also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, bowling, walking and most of all, the time spent with her family. Josephine’s children will remember their mom for her ability to instill confidence and independence in their lives.

Survivors include her husband, Roger, six sons, Randy (Shirl) Phillips of Gilbertville, Rick (Linda) Phillips of Cedar Falls, Steven (Michele) Phillips of Milwaukee, Kevin (Linda) Phillips of Lexington, KY, Tim (Terry) Phillips, Scott (Lori) Phillips all of Ionia. Seven daughters, Kathy (Ross) Phillips-Schilling of Kewanee, WI, Patty (Mike) Jump of Stewartville, MN, Debra (Darwin) Allen of Ionia, Gail (Ken) Fencl of Protivin, Ruth (Larry) Roths of New Hampton, Ronda (Tim) Moody of Marion and Nancy (Paul) Post of Germany. 36 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. One brother, A.J. (LeWayne) Lorang of San Diego, CA, two sisters, Esther Loonan of Lismore, MN, Mary Lacore of Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Mary Jo Phillips in 1967 and a son, Mark Phillips in 1974, three brothers, Nick, John and Joe Lorang, four sisters, Genevieve and Agnes Lorang, Sister Eileen (Helen) Lorang and Lucille Lais.
