Gerald W. "Bud" Denner

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa - Gerald W. "Bud" Denner, age 82 of New Hampton died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2007, at Holy Family Parish-St. Mary’s Center, New Hampton with Msgr. Carl Schmitt celebrating the Mass. Placing the pall will b e his wife, sons and daughters. Music will be provided by cantor Bill Roths and the St. Mary's Choir, accompanied by organist Ann Bennett. Lector will be Richard Rodamaker and Eucharistic ministers will be Mike and Sharon Denner and Ronald Swestka. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Garrett Boeding, Jim Cosgrove and Nicole Klostermann.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Hampton, with Joe Denner, Tim Denner, Chris Denner, Mike Denner, David Hassman, John Friel, Art Swestka and John Rodamaker, Richard Rodamaker, serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Merle & Bernice Rochford, Virgil Sr. & Edna Pickar, Bob & Ellie Hill, Duane Boos and Dennis Boos.

Gerald Walter Denner was born December 24, 1924, at the family farm home, rural New Hampton, the son of Joseph and Lillian (Burgart) Denner. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton, and received his education at St. Mary's Grade School and New Hampton High School. Bud farmed with his father and he also was employed during the winter months at Oliver Tractor Works, Charles City, from 1946 - 1948.  

On November 10, 1948, Gerald was united in marriage with Dorothy Shekleton at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Lawler, with Rev. James J. Delay officiating. The couple was engaged in farming the Denner farm, where Bud has resided his entire life. After retirement, he was employed for several years by Dennis and Duane Boos in their farming operation. 

Bud was an avid sports fan, especially high school and college sports. He attended the NCAA wrestling tournaments for 40 years. He also enjoyed travel, boating, water skiing, fishing and card playing with family and friends. He was a life long member of St. Mary's Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau and Farmers Union.  

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Robert (Roxanne) Denner, Fremont, IA, Richard Denner, New Hampton; three daughters, Barbara Cosgrove, Indianola, IA, Dolores (Lynn) Boeding, New Hampton, Lori (John) Klostermann, Ottumwa, IA; six grandchildren, Garrett, Ashley and Brock Boeding, Jim Cosgrove, Nicole and Jessica Klostermann; two step-grandchildren, Chad Nelson and Angie (Rick) Silliman; one step-great-grandchild, Kylee Silliman; one brother, Charles (Elaine) Denner, New Hampton; three sisters, Delores (Ernie) Picker, St. Peters, MO, Marion (Bob) Frohn, Cedar Falls, Bonnie (Lynn) Hassman, Altoona; two aunts, Lucille Hosek, Cresco and Rosella Bach, New Hampton and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lavern Denner and James Denner; two sisters, Marcella Swestka and Josephine Dostal; two brothers-in-law, John Swestka and Stanley Dostal.
