Forest "Louie" Winters

CHARLES CITY, Iowa - Forest "Louie" Winters, 85, of Charles City, died Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Funeral services for Louie Winters will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. Pastor Gary Van Wert will officiate. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.

Forest Harry „Louie‰ Winters was born January 6, 1922 in rural Charles City, the son of Harry and Margaret (Roe) Winters. He graduated from the Charles City High School in 1940. On October 26, 1958 he was united in marriage to Gladys Darrow Webb at the First Methodist Church in Charles City. Louie farmed in the Charles City area along with working at the Floyd County ASCS Office. He was the Floyd County Weed Commissioner for several years and Assistant Fire Chief for the rural volunteer Fire Department for 37 ∏ years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge, the Elks Lodge, Cattlemen‚s Association, Pork Producers, and Corn Producers. His interests included bowling, playing cards, traveling to all 50 states, and visiting with people. Louie will be remembered for always enjoying his jobs and always willing to help anyone.

Living family members include his wife, Gladys Winters of Charles City; three children, Carol Anne (Larry) Schriever of Floyd, Stanley (Cheryl) Webb of Cannon Falls, Minn., and Michael (Sherry) Winters of Osage; eight grandchildren, Eric, Letti, Lauri, Troy, Tamara, Eric, Heidi, Stephen, and their spouses; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; great grandson, Ethan Gates; four sisters, Gladys Fitzsimmons, Mabel Forsyth, Alta Greenzweig, and Evelyn Zielstorf; and one brother, Harlan Winters.
