Floyd County Historical Museum
500 Gilbert Street - 641-228-1099
Director: Mary Ann Townsend
As one of the top ten county museums in the nation, this isn't your typical small town museum. The largest attraction to the museum is extensive tractor collection from the creators of the gasoline-powered tractor. One of the first Hart-Parr tractors is part of the museum's permanent display along with about a dozen other Hart-Parr, Oliver, and White Farm equipment. But that's not the only display you're going experience. You'll smell the Legal Drug Store the moment you walk into the real life display. This turn of the century drug store will dazzle you when you see the actual powdered drugs still on the shelf. Then you'll be blown away by the 1968 tornado display, the oldest home in Floyd County (a log cabin), and other permanent and rotating displays (ask to see their quilt room).

Carrie Lane Chapman Catt Childhood Dwelling
2379 Timber Avenue - 641-228-3336
Contact: Marilu Wohlers
Standing along side such great women as Susan B. Anthony, Carrie Lane Chapman Catt helped lead the 19th Amendment (allowing women the right to vote) to fruition. Few people know however, Carrie moved to a farm just outside of Charles City in 1865. Her urge to fight for equality began when, as a six-year-old, she asked her mother why her father was loading up all the men on the farm to go into town to vote, and why he was leaving all the women behind. Her dream became a reality when the 19th amendment was ratified. The Victorian style brick home was just completed renovation and is open to the public by appointment.
